As a society, we use nature to aestheticize the spaces that we have developed. These urban sprawls are often built over what was once a fully natural space. The road median site becomes an ironic representation of this dichotomy: destroying nature for the sake of human development and rebuilding natural plots within them in an attempt to create visual interest.
Dystopiary calls attention to the way our society substitutes man-made nature plots to accomplish beauty. This artificiality aligns with the median site and the production of nature in order to make a paved road more attractive. As this beauty is meant to intervene in a field of gray, Dystopiary intervenes in the way that humans use nature as a tool.
